Welcome to my flat in Cressbrook, my UK residence in the Peak District of Derbyshire. It will be my escape from the summertime heat of Sacramento and a foothold in the country of my birth. I hope many of my friends will also be able to make use of the flat.
The flat is located in the Peak District of Derbyshire in an old cotton mill that has been converted to accommodation. The surrounding countryside is quite beautiful and the Peak District was the first National Park in the UK. It is approximately 160 miles due north from London and 33 miles due east of Manchester. The mill complex is situated in the delightfully sounding Water-Cum-Jolly Dale and is a part of the village of Cressbrook. The mill was first built on this site in the late 18th century by Richard Arkwright (of the cotton spinning water frame fame). It burnt down and was rebuilt and added to over time before being finally closed in the 1960's. In the 1990's it was renovated and made into living units.
To get to the flat you can drive north from London on the M1 and take the Chesterfield exit and head towards Bakewell. From Bakewell it is a short drive on country lanes down to the Mill. From Manchester head towards Stockport and then take the A6 to Buxton. From Buxton continue on the A6 to Ashford in the Water and then it is a short drive on country lanes to the Mill.
It does snow in the wintertime sometimes which makes it all the more scenic and beautiful and even more challenging getting up and down the hills into the bottom of the valley. Don't worry the road through is a bus route and it does get plowed.
